Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has made fresh calls for the Welsh Government to implement noise mitigation measures on the A55 in Llanddulas.

Speaking in the Senedd, after a statement by the Cabinet Secretary for North Wales and Transport, Ken Skates, Darren said:

“I have been contacted by constituents in Llanddulas in recent months, who were saying that they would very much appreciate the benefits of noise mitigation fencing, which is already through many other towns and villages along that part of the road network.”

“I would appreciate it if you could tell us what action the Welsh Government is going to take on that front.”

In response, the Cabinet Secretary said:

“I know that Darren wrote to me recently concerning the very same issue of noise assessments on the A55. Those noise assessments are being undertaken at the moment.”

He added:

“I know that there has been a call for temporary measures to be considered. Unfortunately, because we are reaching the end of the assessment work, implementing temporary measures and then having to withdraw them would not make sense, and it would not deliver value for money.”

“So, we want to finish that piece of work, assessing all of the points at which noise nuisance is problematic, and then implement barriers or whatever changes are necessary to improve people's lives.”

Speaking afterwards, Darren said:

“I am encouraged by the Cabinet Secretary’s response, although I was disappointed to hear that temporary measures will not be considered.”

“While I understand the Government’s rationale, this will do little to lessen the frustration that residents will feel at having to wait longer to see action on noise levels.”

“I hope the noise assessments can conclude swiftly, so that action can be taken for residents to see the improvements they need.”
