Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has asked Conwy County Council to consider setting up a flood fund to help smaller flood hit communities in Conwy, such as Llansannan, Llangernyw and Llanfairtalhaiarn.
Darren made the appeal after visiting the villages yesterday and seeing first hand the devastation caused by this week's floods.
He said:
"Smaller flood hit communities in Conwy are obviously not receiving the same media attention as towns such as St Asaph and Ruthin, where appeal funds have been established to assist households in need. I have asked Conwy County Borough Council to consider establishing a Conwy Chairman's Flood Fund to accept donations and distribute support to these communities.
"Residents hit by the floods in rural Conwy are in the same predicament as those in St Asaph and Ruthin, with their homes ruined and having to find alternative accommodation while their properties are restored - a process which could take months.
"Support for those affected in St Asaph and Ruthin has so far been overwhelming, which is great, but I urge people not to forget residents in smaller communities elsewhere in North Wales."
During his visit to the flood hit villages, Darren spoke to residents and businesses whose properties were hit by the floods.
He said:
"For some in Llanfair TH this is the third time they have been hit by floods in the past five years.
"Having had personal experience of the floods in Towyn 20 years ago, I know only too well how devastating flooding can be, to be hit once is devastating enough so my heart goes out to all those in the village who now face putting their homes and businesses back together.
"What happened in Llanfair TH, Llansannan and Llangernyw this week was a disaster that took everyone by surprise and required a massive rescue and clean-up operation. I extend thanks to all those involved in the emergency response over the past few days. They've done an excellent job and local residents are praising their efforts."
