Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that the deadline for people applying for a new bus pass has been extended.
On behalf of the Welsh Government and Local Authorities, Transport for Wales (TfW) are replacing all current green bus passes with new-style Concessionary Travel Cards.
The deadline for this was originally the 31 December 2019, however this has now been extended until 29th February 2020 and bus operators will be fully briefed and will allow anyone with an old bus pass to travel until the new date.
Darren, who last month wrote to TfW requesting an extension, said this will be a huge relief to many of his constituents who had expressed concern regarding the length of time it was taking to process applications for the new bus passes and the possible consequences of this for those who, through no fault of their own, would not have their new passes issued by the end of the year.
He said:
“I am absolutely delighted that TFW have agreed to extend the application process.
“Processing the applications in time was proving to be a real challenge and my constituents who rely on the bus service were becoming increasingly concerned as the deadline loomed that they would be without access to free public transport.
“This extension allays all those worries with there now being ample time for people to apply for the new pass.”
Darren added “TfW will continue its marketing campaign across Wales, and are in the process of sending letters to the frequent users who’ve yet to apply for their new card. I would urge all those who have not yet applied to do so quickly.
“The quickest and easiest way to apply for your new-style card is on the TfW website at www.tfw.wales/travelcards. Alternatively, pop into your local library or community hub where you’ll be able to access the internet.
“Meanwhile those who have already applied can check the status of their new cards online at https://portal.tfw.wales/en/account/login, by emailing TfW at travelcards@tfw.wales or by calling 0300 303 4240”.
