Blue Badge holders encouraged to take part in survey to support change

Having previously called on the Welsh Government to give people with deteriorating health conditions a Blue Badge for life, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is encouraging Blue Badge holders to provide essential evidence to support much-needed change.

If you have a lifelong diagnosis which means you need a Blue Badge, or care for someone who does, STAND (Stronger Together for Additional Needs and Disabilities) North Wales CIC want to hear from you.

Their petition, ‘Make Blue Badge Applications Lifelong for Individuals with a Lifelong Diagnosis’ has been under consideration by the Senedd/Welsh Parliament Petitions Committee for nearly two years and is due to be discussed again soon.

The current Blue Badge system places unnecessary and repeated burdens on individuals whose conditions are permanent and will not improve.

STAND CIC believe the changes proposed in their petition are still urgently needed.

Darren is therefore encouraging those who have a lifelong diagnosis which means they need a Blue Badge, or care for someone who does, to respond to the survey.

He said:

“I am regularly contacted by constituents who are frustrated by the barriers they are facing when trying to renew their Blue Badge and have therefore repeatedly called on the Welsh Government to introduce a Blue Badge for life for those with deteriorating health conditions.

“Forcing Blue Badge holders to reapply for their Badges every few years creates unnecessary bureaucracy. We need a common-sense approach.

“I very much support all the work STAND CIC are doing in pushing for this much-needed change, but, if they are to secure the outcome they want, they need to gather as much evidence as possible. I therefore encourage people to respond to their survey quickly as there is a very short timeframe to collect this information - the survey will close on Sunday September 7th.”
