Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has called on the Welsh Government to consider funding a free entry scheme for Colwyn Bay’s Welsh Mountain Zoo.
Darren last visited the popular tourist attraction with Shadow Education Minister, Angela Burns AM, in November. The Zoo, which was designated as the National Zoo of Wales in 2008, has plans for a new tropical house to enhance its educational and training programmes.
Speaking in the Senedd this week, he called on the Minister responsible for tourism to join him in congratulating the zoo on its continued success as a major tourist attraction in the region before asking the Welsh Government to consider introducing a free-entry scheme for visitors.
Following an exchange in the Senedd, Darren said:
"The Welsh Mountain Zoo is an important tourism destination in North Wales, providing visitors of all ages with a fun day out as well as the opportunity to learn through educational programs.
"National museums in Wales already benefit from free entry schemes supported by the Welsh Government and I think that it is about time that our National Zoo does too.
"I hope the Minister and her Cabinet colleagues will give my proposal some serious consideration."
