The First Minister has rejected calls for a public inquiry into the Ruthin floods.
Ruthin residents have been calling for an independent public inquiry into floods on the Glasdir estate, which homeowners were told had a 1 in 1,000 year flood risk.
An investigation by the Environment Agency concluded that blocked culverts were responsible for the incident, but responsibilities for flood defence maintenance and flood risk management remain unresolved.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar challenged the First Minister to commission an inquiry during First Ministers Question’s, but the First Minister rejected the calls.
Darren said:
"The First Minister’s rejection is a real slap in the face for those whose homes were ruined by the devastating floods in November. These residents are still trying to piece their lives together and part of that process involves establishing exactly what caused their homes to flood. Without clear answers they will live in fear that they may be flooded again in the future.
"The First Minister has totally ignored their concerns in dismissing their calls for a public inquiry and I know they will be sorely disappointed, as I am."
