Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has hit out at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board for deciding to close Colwyn Bay’s Minor Injuries Unit despite strong public opposition.
Darren is appalled that health managers have given the controversial proposals the go-ahead knowing that so many are against the changes.
He said:
"I'm incredibly disappointed by this decision.
"Health managers insist the proposals will lead to better care for patients, but as the largest town on the North Wales coast, Colwyn Bay ought to have a hospital which has sufficient services and resources to meet local needs.
"As residents who attended the public meeting I organised in September told me: an ageing local population; poor public transport; plans to increase housing in the area; and the new sporting developments in the town, are just some of the reasons why they wanted to keep a Minor Injuries service in Colwyn Bay.
"With A&E departments busier than ever and hospitals bursting at the seams, downgrading community hospitals in this way seems to fly in the face of common sense.
"Community hospitals are an integral part of the Welsh NHS which help to make services more accessible for patients and Colwyn Bay is a key part of the health network on the North Wales coast."
