FMQs: First Minister burying her "head in the sand" over growing cost of living crisis

At First Minister’s Questions today, the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives challenged the First Minister over the mounting cost of living pressures facing households across Wales.

Council tax has soared over the past five years, water bills have risen by hundreds of pounds, and petrol and diesel prices have increased sharply in recent weeks due to conflict in the Middle East.

Mr Millar criticised the First Minister for burying her head in the sand, failing to address the financial pressures hitting families across the country.

Commenting, Darren Millar MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said:

"The cost of living in Wales is putting households under serious pressure and the First Minister is failing to provide the support people need.

"The Conservatives froze fuel duty for over 15 years, yet this Welsh Government has done nothing to challenge the UK Government’s planned fuel duty increase. Instead, they stand by as councils push up council tax and household bills soar.

"The Welsh Conservatives know the best way to help people is to put more money back into their pockets. That’s why we have a credible plan to cut a penny off income tax, extend free childcare, cap council tax rises and scrap stamp duty to boost the economy and get Wales working."
