At First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) today, the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS, aimed his criticism at Plaid Cymru separatist politicians for assisting the Welsh Labour Government for policies such as the “unwanted and unpopular 20mph default speed limit”, the “disastrous so-called Sustainable Farming Scheme” and “vanity projects in Uganda”.
Darren challenged the Welsh Labour leader, instead of “begging the UK Government for a new deal”, to apologise for the “old deals” made with Plaid Cymru.
He accused the First Minister of “building the scaffolding for the very break-up of the UK you claim to fear” by demanding more powers over policing and justice.
Commenting in the Chamber, he said:
“Welsh Labour’s appeasement of Plaid Cymru will lead to the break-up of Britain.
“The pursuit of more powers for the Senedd will only build the scaffolding for the very separatism that the First Minister claims to fear.
“The only steadfast and unequivocally Unionist party on offer at the Senedd election is the Welsh Conservatives, because we are the only party saying no to Plaid’s salami-slice strategy towards independence – no more powers, no more politicians.”
