Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is encouraging community sports clubs in North Wales to take advantage of a funding opportunity which will enable them to save money on their energy bills.
The latest funding round of British Gas’ Energy for Tomorrow Sports programme is now open to sports clubs in Wales, delivered in partnership with Team GB and Paralympics GB.
This programme is designed to help community sports clubs across the country cut energy costs, reduce carbon emissions, and reinvest savings back into local grassroots sport and communities.
In 2024, British Gas’ Energy for Tomorrow committed £1 million over five years to make community sports facilities more sustainable.
Last year’s pilot, supported by Crowdfunder, unlocked a total of £141,000 in funding for the sports clubs to spend on low carbon improvements such as solar panel installation, heat pumps and LED lighting, insulation.
This year the programme will support 12 community sports clubs across the UK to decarbonise.
Encouraging sports clubs in North Wales to apply, Darren said:
"British Gas’ Energy for Tomorrow fund is looking for sports clubs who want to invest in sustainable upgrades and save on their energy bills.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for community sports clubs. Reducing their energy bills will enable them to reinvest in the club and create more opportunities for their teams to thrive.
"I encourage clubs in my constituency of Clwyd West, and indeed across the whole of North Wales, to make sure they don't miss out and apply before the deadline which is on 27th March 2026."
