Guests from every corner of Wales, across the UK and around the world flocked in Cardiff last week to take part in a Parliamentary Prayer Event and exhibition hosted by Clwyd West AM Darren Millar.
Christian leaders from different denominations, the business and third sectors, along with the Head of the Palestinian Mission to the UK, Husam Zomlot, The Consul General of Ireland, Denise Hanrahan, Honorary Consuls representing Brazil, Hungary, India, Israel and guests from Belgium, Pakistan, the United States of America and South Africa arrived at the Senedd to take part in the third St David’s Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast for Wales.
The event was also attended by Assembly Members and speakers included the Secretary of State for Wales, Simon Hart MP, the Welsh Government's Finance Minister, Rebecca Evans AM, and the Archbishop of Wales, the Most Reverend John Davies.
This year the Parliamentary Breakfast celebrated two important milestones, the centenary of the Church in Wales and the 400th anniversary of the publication of the Parry Bible, which was on display at the event along with other rare bibles from the archives of the National Library of Wales, including the William Morgan Bible.
Guests also attended a reception in the Senedd on the eve of the Prayer Breakfast where they heard from the Minister for International Relations, Eluned Morgan AM, and Professor Norman Doe, who spoke on ‘A New History of the Church in Wales’.
Darren said:
“This was our third St David's Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast Event and like the previous two it was a huge hit.
“An event of this scale takes a lot of organising and due to the coronavirus there were a few last minute cancellations and re-gigging of the seating plan, but I couldn’t have hoped for a more successful event.
“Music was provided by the Sound of Wales both at the breakfast and the evening reception, and guests were gifted with goodie bags and beautiful Welsh love spoons, uniquely hand crafted in Capel Coch in Llanrwst,
“It truly was a momentous event and a fantastic way to celebrate St David’s Day. I would like to thank all those who travelled from far and wide to attend."
The Prayer Breakfast was recorded by Premier Christian Radio and will be broadcast at 12 noon on Saturday, 14th March.
