Guests flock from all over the world to attend Welsh Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast

Clwyd West MS Darren Millar hosted the Welsh Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast this week, bringing together Members of the Senedd, church leaders from throughout Wales, international guests and others, to share in the spirit of prayer and thanksgiving for the nation of Wales and our rich Christian Heritage.

Guests from every corner of Wales, across the UK and around the world flocked in Cardiff on Thursday to take part in the Parliamentary Prayer Event at the Pierhead building.

The evening before, on St David’s Day,  there was an evening reception in the Senedd, followed by a dinner.

All the events are organised by a cross-party committee of Members of the Senedd.

Darren said:

“Each year, guests gather together in Cardiff Bay to pray to celebrate Welsh Christian heritage and pray for the nation.

“It is always a very well attended, uplifting and reflective occasion. At the breakfast, we heard from the Bible Society’s Sian Rees about the importance of pilgrimage,  enjoyed wonderful music performed by the Sound of Wales and renowned Welsh harpist, Bethan Semmens, and reflected on the wise words of parliamentarians from Wales and beyond.

“At the reception the evening before we enjoyed the wonderful voices of Côr Meibion Taf and heard from Tatiana Gumenyuk, a Ukrainian refugee, and a representative from the Ukrainian Embassy about the horrendous reality that the Ukrainian people continue to face.

"We were blessed to have Welsh Government Minister Mick Antoniw MS join us this year; he is a Ukrainian citizen and has undertaken a number of trips taking aid to the country over the past 12 months.

"The Anglican Archbishop of Wales, Andrew John, and Catholic Archbishop of Cardiff, Mark O'Toole offered prayers and blessings for the people of Ukraine.

“The National Library of Wales exhibited a selection of rare manuscripts and historic Bibles from their extensive archives during the events.”

Darren added:

“It truly was a momentous event and a fantastic way to celebrate St David’s Day. I would like to thank all those who travelled from far and wide to attend and look forward to hosting the event again next year.”
