Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar met with cancer patients and their families at the Tenovus Cancer Summer Tea Party in the Senedd today, at which a key manifesto by the charity was launched.
Darren joined fellow MSs and supporters from across Wales at the event to hear more from patients and their clinicians on what they want from cancer services.
The event, including a panel discussion, brought together members of the All-Wales Cancer Community, a unique initiative launched by Tenovus Cancer Care to unite people from across the nation who have been affected by cancer — either personally or through a loved one.
Around 200 individuals from every corner of Wales are now part of the community, contributing their valuable insight and experiences to help inform policy decisions, service development, and research.
Guests at the Senedd event were welcomed with a heartfelt performance by the Tenovus ‘Sing with Us’ Choir, from Swansea, made up entirely of individuals who have been affected by cancer. Their powerful voices set a moving tone for the gathering, which also featured personal stories from members of the All-Wales Cancer Community.
Speaking afterwards, Darren said:
“Tenovus Cancer Care do fantastic work and it was a privilege to join them today and hear directly from those whose lives have been impacted by cancer.
“It is vital that we hear their experiences as it enables us to shape better services and support across Wales.
“Tenovus Cancer Care continues to advocate for a better future for people affected by cancer in Wales, using the voices of the community to drive change where it matters most.
“A great number of my constituents have been, and will be, affected by cancer and to know there is a community of other people who can come together to support and influence the policy, research, and service development landscape in Wales is really important.
“I would encourage anyone who wishes to know more or to get involved, to contact Tenovus Cancer Care for more information or to sign up via their website.”
