The £2.5million investment in Thorncliffe Builders Merchants’ latest North Wales site has been praised by Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar who officially opened it last week.

The family business, which was established in 1987, is now one of the region’s leading independent builder’s merchants.

It already has branches in Dyserth and Ewloe, skip hire in Ewloe and Abergele, and groundcare and garden machinery in Rhuddlan.

The Wrexham site has been open since April, but the official opening took place on Friday.

Having visited the Dyserth depot earlier this year, Darren was delighted to hear of the company’s expansion and to be invited to cut the ribbon and make a speech at last week’s ceremony.

Speaking after the event, he said:

“It was a genuine pleasure to officially open the new Thorncliffe Building Supplies branch in Wrexham. This is a significant milestone for Thorncliffe and for the wider community her in Wrexham.

“Since its founding in 1987, Thorncliffe Building Supplies has grown into one of the region’s leading independent builder’s merchants, with a reputation built on quality, reliability, and outstanding customer service. Today’s opening reflects not just the growth of the company but also its ongoing commitment to serving the needs of both trade professionals and local residents alike.

“This new site is a welcome addition to the Thorncliffe family with existing branches in Dyserth, Ewloe, Abergele and Rhuddlan. The new Wrexham location marks a significant step in the company’s continued regional growth and presence.

“The £2.5 million investment in this new facility demonstrates confidence in the future of construction, development, and community growth in North Wales. Not only that but it also has provided 9 jobs to local people.

“A key highlight of the Wrexham branch is the introduction of innovative ready mix concrete, mortar and screed making life easier for both builders and renovators.

“It is clear that family spirit underpins the Thorncliffe business — with generations of the Harper family involved — and the resilience the company has shown through changing economic landscapes, always adapting and expanding to meet customer needs.

“I’d like to congratulate Tim Harper, the management team, and all the staff on this exciting new chapter. I’m sure this new Wrexham branch will be a tremendous success.”

North Wales MS and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance. Sam Rowlands, also attended the opening.

He said:

“It was a great pleasure to attend Friday’s celebration. Thorncliffe have come a long way since they were established in 1987, being well known now throughout North Wales for the excellent customer service they provide, along with their quality products.

“I am delighted that they chose Wrexham as the location for their latest branch - their presence will be a real asset to the city.

“I welcome the jobs they have already created at the site and wish them the best of luck with this latest venture. Given all they have achieved to date, I am confident the Wrexham branch will experience the same level of success as their other branches here in North Wales.”
