Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar jointly hosted an event in Cardiff this week to mark Newroz, the Kurdish New Year.
Darren, and co-sponsors Rhys ab Owen MS and Heledd Fychan MS, welcomed guests from the Senedd, from the Kurdish community in Wales, and elsewhere, to the Senedd event which took place on Tuesday evening.
Speaking after the 2026 event, Darren, who has been sponsoring Newroz Senedd events for a number of years, said he has been thrilled to see them get bigger and better.
He added:
"It’s always been an absolute joy to see the celebration, the music, the colour, and the energy that lights the Senedd every time we have a Newroz gathering.
"For some of those celebrating, Newroz this year will have been a much more sombre occasion especially given the difficult and troubling circumstances in the Middle East.
"It is therefore important that we keep in our thoughts and prayers those for whom Newroz is a challenge and cling on to the core message of Newroz, of hope and new beginnings.
"Though times may be dark now, we can at least keep hope that a better and brighter future is possible."
The event included Kurdish poetry, music and dancing.
