Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar joined staff and volunteers from Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales at the Senedd this week to mark the charity’s annual Coffee Morning fundraising event and is encouraging people to get involved in this year’s fundraiser.
The event was an opportunity to find out more about how Macmillan in Wales is supporting people living with cancer, as well as meeting with inspirational Macmillan volunteers, fundraisers and professionals.
Speaking after the event, Darren said:
“Today, (Friday September 26th) people will be gathering all over the country for a Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning. These events not only bring people together to share delicious food and drink, but they also raise vital funds to support people living with cancer.
“Over the years I have been to many Macmillan Coffee Morning events at various venues both in my constituency in Clwyd West and in Cardiff. It is a fantastic way to get together, share a slice of cake and a cuppa and raise some money for charity - and of course 2025 marks a special year as the charity’s flagship fundraiser celebrates its 35th birthday!
“I’m proud to help support Macmillan’s coffee morning by letting people know about that this important fundraising event and reminding them that coffee mornings don’t have to be held on September 26th, they can take place whenever you want, so it’s not too late to get involved.
“Sign up now at www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning on a day that suits you and join Macmillan on their mission to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer.
Every penny raised at a Coffee Morning helps Macmillan to provide support for people with cancer, who need it now more than ever. This could include:
· £30 could help run our Online Community forum for 1 hour. In this time, 80 people affected by cancer in the UK can give emotional and practical support to each other on anything to do with cancer – from treatments, to coping with everyday life, to the death of a loved one.
· £65 could pay for 100 copies of The Cancer Guide. This Macmillan booklet can help someone recently diagnosed with cancer and their families, understand more about cancer, its treatment, and the help available.
· £147 could pay for a Macmillan Information and Support Assistant for 1 day, giving people living with cancer the opportunity to ask questions and talk through their concerns.
