MS wears wellies in Senedd to show support for farmers

Clwyd West MS and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for North Wales, Darren Millar, donned his wellies this week to show his support for farmers protesting against Labour’s death tax.

On Tuesday, as more than 10,000 farmers gathered in protest in central London, calling for the UK government to reverse course on its plans to make changes to inheritance tax for family farms, Darren joined his Welsh Conservative colleagues on the steps of the Senedd, all of them wearing wellington boots, to show farmers across Wales that they stand strong with them.

Commenting, Darren said:

“The UK Government’s plans to change inheritance tax for family farms will be crippling for Welsh agriculture and must be reversed. The Country Land and Business Association estimates the changes will harm 70,000 UK farms.

“Farmers have rightly voiced their concerns at protests throughout the country, with some threatening to strike if the policy isn't reversed.

“The consequences of this new tax could be devastating for Welsh agriculture.

“Here in Wales, farmers are already being hit by the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Farming Scheme and have now been dealt this further blow.

“As Welsh Conservative Leader Andrew RT Davies said this week, “we now have two Labour Governments on each end of the M4 working in tandem to destroy farming in Wales”.

“Like thousands of others, I urge the Prime Minister to listen to the concerns of farmers, remember that without them we will have no food, and scrap these ludicrous plans.”
