Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed news that Conwy County Borough Council have agreed to install traffic calming measures on a notoriously dangerous road in Abergele.
Darren has been working with Abergele Councillors Alan Hunter and Dominic Davies to press for action to address speeding traffic on Faenol Avenue and is therefore delighted that the Council has now agreed to install traffic calming measures as part of a resurfacing programme.
He said:
“This road has been a concern for residents for years due to its history of speeding and accidents.
“I have been pleased to work with Cllr Hunter, and more recently Cllr Davies, to press for action and I applaud them both for their tenacity, dedication and commitment to community safety.
“It is reassuring to know that once these works are completed next year, residents will feel safer using this busy route.”
Cllr Alan Hunter said:
“Fellow Councillors, Paul Luckock, Charlie McCoubrey and I have been painfully aware of the issues on Faenol Avenue and have always looked for opportunities to improve road safety.
“Never one to give up or miss an opportunity, earlier this year I noted that in the current capital spend for highway resurfacing Faenol Avenue has made the list for resurfacing early next year, so in May l wrote to Conwy Council to request that traffic calming measures be included in the resurfacing program.
“I am beyond pleased that I recently received confirmation that traffic calming and safer crossing points will be included in the program of works which is scheduled for February/March next year.”
Cllr Dominic Davies added:
"Improving road safety on Faenol Avenue has been one of my key priorities since being elected. I welcome the inclusion of safer crossings, which residents have been calling for, and I’m pleased to see progress finally being made.
“Of course, there is still more work to be done. Issues such as parking and enforcement continue to affect the area, and I will keep working with colleagues to ensure these concerns are also addressed in the future."
