Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar congratulated North Wales finalists and winners when he attended last week’s rural Oscars.
Last Tuesday, the Countryside Alliance Wales held its annual ‘Rural Oscars’ awards ceremony, where several Welsh rural businesses were crowned champions.
The Countryside Alliance Awards – now in their 18th year – recognise rural businesses across five categories, including ‘best local food’, ‘best butcher’, ‘best pub’, ‘best rural enterprise’, and ‘best village shop/ post office’. These businesses go the extra mile within their communities, supporting the local economy and championing local goods and services.
Thousands of nominations from around the country were whittled down via the judging process, with the final few being honoured at the Welsh finalists’ awards ceremony in Cardiff at the Senedd.
Darren was at the event where he got to speak to some of the winners, runners up and finalists, including those from North Wales.
These included, The Vale Grocer, Colomendy Industrial Estate, Denbigh, who were runners up in the Rural Enterprise category, and Ty Ceffyl Bach, Llandyrnog, who were highly commended in the same category.
In the village shop and post office category, Llandyrnog Village Shop and Post Office, were runners up.
Commenting, Darren said:
“Dubbed the ‘Rural Oscars’, the Countryside Alliance Awards honour a group of people who are passionate about their countryside and about providing quality goods, services and employment to rural communities and beyond.
“The businesses that attended the Senedd for the awards really are top of their game, so to even reach the finals is a remarkable achievement.
“I was delighted to see finalists from North Wales and was thrilled that three Denbighshire businesses were placed.
“These businesses deserve to be extremely proud of their success in these highly prestigious awards and I extend my congratulations to them all.
“They really are a credit to North Wales and I wish them well going forward.”
