St David's Day Funding (pixaby)

Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is encouraging community groups and organisations across North Wales to apply for financial support from a new fund which has been set up as part of a programme of activity for St David’s Day 2026.

The Welsh Government’s £1 million St David’s Day Pilot Support Fund opened for applications on 14th October and is designed to support activities that bring communities together across Wales in celebration of Welsh heritage, culture and values.

Organisations and groups are encouraged to propose projects that promote traditional and contemporary Welsh culture, such as music, art, literature, sport, food and the Welsh language - this could include parades, music performances, community workshops, traditional Welsh folk dancing or food-based events.

Commenting, Darren said:

“I very much welcome this new fund which is designed to bring communities together through activities that showcase the nation’s heritage, language, and contemporary identity, and I am keen that community groups and organisations here in North Wales do not miss out.

“They will be able to apply for three levels of funding, from small community groups to major national organisations. Local groups can apply for grants from £1,000 to £5,000 to deliver local or neighbourhood events. Up to £20,000 will be available for organisations that can deliver projects or events with a regional or multi community impact, and up to £40,000 for Wales-wide organisations to deliver nationwide activities.

“The fund is a fantastic opportunity for communities in North Wales to demonstrate their creativity and pride in our Welsh culture.

“It will help ensure that every community, from small villages to large towns, can play a part in celebrating Wales’s national day in true local style.

“The fund will be open for applications until 12pm on Friday, 14th November 2025 and I encourage as many groups as possible to apply.”
