During Armed Forces Week, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar hosted an Employer Reception in the Senedd to celebrate Reserves Day (June 25th).
Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve as part of the military.
At Wednesday's event in the Senedd, the Reserve Forces were celebrated for their outstanding contribution to their country.
Darren said:
“The Reserve Forces make up approximately one sixth of our Armed Forces personnel and are integral to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas, particularly providing capability in specialist areas such as medical and cyber.
“Reserves Day was created to highlight and recognise the valuable contribution Reservists make to our Armed Forces.
“Organisations recognise the skills Reservists can bring to civilian employment and are supporting them by signing the Armed Forces Covenant and being part of the Employer Recognition Scheme.
“At Wednesday's event, the benefits of employing a Reservist through the transfer of skills gained by their training and mobilisation were highlighted.
“We also heard how joining the Reserves gives you an opportunity to enjoy a range of extraordinary new experiences and to develop new skills you would not get in your day-to-day life.
“The Reservist community is diverse, with reservists coming from all parts of society and all walks of life.
“They are deployed in operations worldwide, undertaking different, diverse and, sometimes, dangerous roles, and Wednesday was a day to celebrate the valuable contribution they make to our Armed Forces, which sadly often goes unrecognised.
“I was pleased to see employers at the event, and on social media, thanking our Reservists across the UK for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to serving our country. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all Reservists in my own constituency, and indeed across the whole of Wales, for doing such an amazing job.”
