Having made repeated calls over the years for safety measures on the A494, Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed the announcement of funding for improvements on the stretch between Ruthin and Mold.
The investment announced by the Welsh Government will include installation of new warning signs, road markings and hazard marker posts.
They will be installed near the Clwyd Gate Hotel at the summit of the road - where it bends sharply.
Welcoming the investment, Darren said:
“This announcement is long overdue. This is a dangerous stretch of road and for years I have been calling for improvements. It's only right that the Welsh Government will at last be investing some money and making this road safer.
“We have witnessed far too many accidents and fatalities on the A494 over the years, so residents will very much welcome these improvements, however it is disappointing that we have had to wait so long.
“When projects on this road were shelved as a result of the moratorium on investment in new capital projects, I repeatedly challenged the Welsh Government over their decision and highlighted the accidents that were happening on the road.
“The signs and markings that will be installed will warn drivers of people walking, cycling and horse riding in the area and I very much look forward to seeing them in place.”
