Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar is calling on residents in Conwy and Denbighshire to support their local shop during the Covid-19 outbreak.
At a time when the media is focused on the big supermarkets, Darren is backing the Federation of Independent Retailers (NFRN) ‘Shop Local, Shop Little’ campaign and urging people to use their local convenience stores during the crisis.
He said:
“These are challenging time for the whole retail sector, but particularly small, independent retailers. The demands of managing new ways of working and interacting with customers as we all embrace social distancing, coping with the pressures on the supply chain, and not knowing if their staff will be in the shop tomorrow, have come on top of what was already a difficult trading environment for many of these smaller retailers.
“All the focus throughout this crisis has been on the big supermarkets, and while we cannot deny that they are providing a great service, we must not forget that the majority of essential items are also available from our corner shops and convenience stores. Many of the smaller shops are also offering a delivery service.
“In these unprecedented challenging trading conditions, I therefore urge you all to support your local shops and help ensure that they will still be here for us once we are through the other side of this crisis”.
