Almost a £1million of taxpayers money has been spent on a survey which gave respondents freebies such as High Street vouchers and books of stamps.
Figures obtained by Clwyd West AM Darren Millar show that 5,200 homes across Wales have been sent gifts as part of a National Survey of Adult Skills commissioned by the Labour-Plaid Assembly Government in Cardiff Bay.
Speaking after he challenged the Education Minister on the issue in the Assembly last week, Darren Millar said:
‘The Education Minister’s decision to spend the best part of £1m on a survey with gimmicks like this is scandalous.
‘It is a kick in the teeth to parents, hardworking teachers and governors, such as those in my constituency, who are being told that their schools could close due to financial constraints in the public sector.
‘This cash should not have been frittered away on freebies such as High Street vouchers and books of stamps, it should have been invested in the education of our pupils across Wales and protecting frontline services during the difficult years ahead.’
