Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed a substantial investment by Welsh Water/Dŵr Cymru to upgrade the water network in two Denbighshire villages.
Welsh Water will be investing approximately £1.5 million to upgrade the water network in the Cyffylliog area and approximately £350,000 to upgrade the water network in Betws Gwerfil Goch area.
This essential work will help to improve the drinking water network in the area and ensure security of supply along with alleviating issues with loss of supply or low water pressure currently experienced by some customers in the area.
The work will get underway in September, when contractors (OCU Group) will start replacing approximately 4km of water pipes in the Cyffylliog area and 1.2km of water pipes in Betws Gwerfil Goch area. If all goes to plan, the work should be finished by late Spring 2026.
Throughout most of the work there should be no interruptions to customer’s water supply. However, due to the nature of this work, it might be necessary for Welsh Water to turn off the water supply for a short period of time every now and again as they connect properties to an alternative supply while they work on the pipes. If they need to do this, they will let all affected customer know via text message on the same day.
A lot of the work will be in fields so shouldn’t cause too much disruption. However, there will be times when temporary road closures or traffic lights will need to be put in place to ensure the safety of residents and workers. Further information regarding road closures will be given closer to the time.
Welcoming the work, Darren said:
“This is a substantial investment in the water network in Denbighshire and will benefit residents greatly.
“This essential work will help to improve the drinking water network in the area and keep water flowing by reducing the risk of leaks and supply interruptions experienced by some customers in the area.
“I am pleased to hear that Welsh Water will be using a combination of traditional and innovative methods so that they can get the work done as quickly as possible whilst trying their best to minimise disruption.
“Newsletters have been sent to those who reside in the Cyffylliog and Betws Gwerfil Goch area, and I have been assured that Welsh Water will work closely with those areas and will keep their customers up to date via their website and social media pages. For updates visit their webpage on dwrcymru.com/inyourarea.
“There will also be a drop-in information event at: The Red Lion Hotel, Cyffylliog, Ll15 2DN on Wednesday, September 3rd between 2pm-6pm.”
