Welsh Government ministers have confirmed that a ‘cooking bus’ to educate Welsh children about eating is to be sold off – having cost £655,000 to run when it was launched in 2012/13.
Welsh Conservatives have raised questions over the total cost of the scheme, which experts said at the time was unlikely to bring any significant health benefits.
Shadow Health Minister, Darren Millar AM said:
“Even at the time it was launched there were few who believed that this hare-brained scheme could work.
"At a time when every penny of taxpayers’ money must be preciously guarded, you have to question what on earth the business planning process was like in the first place that approved this sort of scheme.
“As well as imposing record-breaking NHS budget cuts, Labour’s Carwyn Jones has wasted millions more on ill-thought and ineffective projects.
“Instead of patronising, nanny-state gestures like this Labour ministers must focus on sensible schemes to educate families about a healthy lifestyle and diet.”
