Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar is demanding an urgent meeting with HSBC after learning this week that it is set to close its Abergele branch in March next year.
Darren said he is disgusted by the decision and angry that the bank failed to inform him or other elected representatives of their intentions.
The news comes just a week after NatWest announced it would be closing a number of its North Wales branches.
Darren said:
“I’m disgusted by HSBC’s decision to close the Abergele branch. They are abandoning a very loyal customer base of individuals and businesses in the town which will now face significant inconvenience when trying to access banking services.
“The bank didn’t have the courtesy to inform me or other local elected representatives.
“To break this news just before Christmas is Scrooge-like and shows how little they care for the wellbeing of their staff, who will now face uncertainty over the festive season.
“I am seeking an urgent meeting with the bank to discuss their plans.
“NatWest announced closures last week, including in Ruthin in my constituency where customers face similar inconvenience. I also requested a meeting with them but I am yet to receive the courtesy of a reply.
“These closures do nothing to enhance the image of the banking industry.”
