Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has congratulated an Abergele Councillor for being shortlisted for a top national award.
Welsh Conservative Cllr Sam Rowlands was shortlisted to the final five of the national LGIU (The Local Government Information Unit) Young Councillor of the Year Award 2015.
The Awards are the only national ceremony to honour the hard work of councillors from across the country. With nearly 200 nominations, a record amount for the Awards, competition was extremely tight this year. The winners were selected by a group of judges made up of local government experts and councillors.
Darren said:
“This is a fantastic achievement and I am delighted that Sam’s hard word for the local community has been recognised. Although he wasn’t selected as the overall winner, to be shortlisted from 200 nominations is something he should be extremely proud of.
“The dedication and commitment of our local councillors often goes unrecognised. Sam and his colleagues on Abergele Town Council do amazing work day in and day out to make our communities healthier, our streets safer and our public services stronger, often with very little praise or thanks. We must all remember and be grateful for the wonderful work our local councillors do.”
Cllr Sam Rowlands said:
“It was a honour to be shortlisted for this prestigious award and I am grateful to those who nominated me. I thoroughly enjoy my role as a councillor and whilst I don’t do it for the recognition, it is pleasing to know that my efforts are appreciated.”
