Clwyd West AM Darren Millar helped youngsters at an Abergele School raise funds for their local hospice last week by donning some unusual head gear.
Darren wore a policeman’s hat when he visited Ysgol Glan Gele on Friday to take part in the school’s 'Hats for Hospices' fundraising event for St Kentigern Hospice and to congratulate staff and pupils on their excellent Estyn Inspection Report.
Hats for Hospices is a Dress Down Day with a difference. It encourages people to wear a hat for school or work in support of their local hospice this October.
Darren said:
“I was delighted to join the Abergele youngsters for this fun fundraising initiative.
“The children and I had a great time wearing our different hats. All the children donated £1 to wear their chosen hat – I was very impressed with the variety of funky hats on display!
“This a great way to not only raise vital funds for our local hospice, but to also educate children about the fantastic work our hospices do.”
He added:
“Ysgol Glan Gele is a great school and the team there work incredibly hard to provide a first class education to their pupils which is reflected in their recent Estyn Inspection report. I would like to congratulate all the staff and not least the parents pupils and governors at the school on this excellent report.”
Headteacher Julia Buckly-Jones said: “I was pleased that Darren’s visit to the school to congratulate us on our recent inspection report coincided with our Hats for Hospices Day. The children loved wearing the different hats and we managed to raise £177 for St Kentigern Hospice.”
