Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar has criticised Ministers and NHS bosses in North Wales for taking too long to improve a troubled health board.
Darren is concerned that little progress has been made since Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board became the first one in Welsh history to be plunged into special measures back in June and Professor Trevor Purt was suspended as Chief Executive.
More than 100 days have now passed since the CEO was suspended on full pay which means he will have earned around £54,800 so far while sidelined from his duties.
Darren has called for urgent action and said the money would be better spent on patient care.
He said:
“Improvements within the health board are taking too long. We were promised progress within 100 days, yet it appears to most people as though little has changed.
“Taxpayers will rightly question why they are paying thousands for an NHS chief to sit at home, and thousands more for someone to come and do his job.
“Labour Ministers took far too long to put Betsi in special measures and now they’re taking far too long to tackle the leadership issues at the Board.
“Progress is desperately needed and Ministers and NHS bosses in North Wales need to pull their fingers out and get on with it.”
