More than £90 million in clinical negligence claims is expected to be paid out by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board over the next couple of years.
The figure came to light in a report presented at a meeting of Health Board’s director of corporate services, Chris Wright, this week.
It has been reported that the largest payout is valued at £9.6 million and there are nine claims of more than £1 million.
There are currently 790 open claims against the Health Board - 670 for clinical negligence and 120 for personal injury.
Shadow Minister for Health, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar said:
'Having endured record-breaking cuts at the hand of an incompetent Welsh Labour Government in recent years the Welsh NHS can ill afford to be paying out tens of millions in negligence claims.
'All health boards must learn from these mistakes to ensure that lessons are learned and patient care is not compromised in the future.'
