Clwyd West Assembly Member, Darren Millar, has called on the Welsh Government to help resolve the flooding issue in Llanddulas.
Residents have been flooded out of their homes on five occasions in the past five years, most recently over the Christmas period.
In the Senedd this week, Darren challenged the First Minister over what is being done by the Welsh Government to address the problem.
He said:
“I was very disappointed to note that flooding had reoccurred in Llanddulas. It faces not only flooding risks from the sea, but also from the River Dulas and poor drainage. Three households have faced flooding now some five times since 2010, even though investment has been put into the coastal defences in the village.
“What discussions is the Welsh Government having with Conwy County Borough Council to encourage them to access Welsh Government cash to prevent flooding in Llanddulas, in conjunction with Welsh Water and Natural Resources Wales, so that they can get this problem sorted once and for all for those households, albeit small in number, who have been affected?”
The First Minister said: “It’s for Conwy Council to bring forward proposals for consideration and I would of course encourage them to do so in order to help those people who were affected in Llanddulas.”
Darren added: “We know that it takes a long time for people to recover from a flood, and there are some simple solutions that could be brought to bear for the community to resolve this issue once and for all.
“I will be meeting with Conwy Council, Natural Resources Wales and local residents on January 29th to seek to move things forward.”
