Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar is calling on the Welsh Government to grant permission for a new bus stop in Llanbedr DC near Ruthin.
There is a bus stop on the north side of the Llanbedr, however a change of bus operator following the collapse of GHA Coaches earlier this year has resulted in buses no longer stopping near the Griffin pub in the village. The next nearest bus stop is around quarter of a mile away down the hill making it more difficult for the elderly and people with mobility problems returning with shopping to get home.
Darren met with Denbighshire Cllr Huw Williams this week to discuss the matter.
He said:
“Denbighshire County Council have been approached about the issue but the A494 is a trunk road so it needs the support of the Welsh Government to resolve the issue and I am therefore calling for them to grant permission as soon as possible.
“It is not right that elderly people have been left to struggle like this, a new bus stop should have been installed immediately following the collapse of GHA Coaches before the summer.”
Cllr Williams said:
“Many residents in the village have raised concerns about this with me, particularly the elderly. A quarter of a mile is a long way to trek for them and those with mobility problems, especially when carrying heavy shopping. I hope the Welsh Government listen to the calls and take action to remedy this problem as soon as possible.”
