Following last week’s devastating floods in North Wales, Clwyd West AM Daren Millar has called for a Welsh Government statement on flooding in the Assembly.
Darren, who on Friday met with those whose homes were hit by the floods in Ruthin, Llansannan and LlanfairTH , told Ministers that in the wake of the terrible flooding in Conwy and Denbighshire serious concerns are being raised about the adequacy of the planning system in particular to be able to deal and cope with flooding.
Darren said:
"I appreciated that the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development has issued a written statement, but we need the chance to question the Welsh Government over whether flooding planning policies are fit for purpose given problems at Glasdir in Ruthin and I hope this opportunity is given to us in the New Year.
"The water may have gone, but the devastation and heartbreak remains for those affected by the floods. It will be months before many of them can return to their homes, we must ensure that action is taken to prevent a repeat of last week’s tragedy."
