Calls for an inquiry into Health Board failings

Responding to calls from bereaved families for a public inquiry into Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board failings after 28 “prevention of future deaths reports” were recorded over a 16-month period, Darren Millar MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for North Wales said:

“The people of North Wales are being let down by a Health Board and a Labour Welsh Government who have failed to get to grips with these mounting challenges.

“Betsi Cadwaladr is in special measures, it is under direct supervision of the Labour Government, yet the stream of scandals and failings continue on their watch.

“Having raised these and other issues surrounding the Health Board on numerous occasions with Labour Ministers to no avail, it is clear that we need an independent inquiry to give bereaved families the answers that they deserve.”

Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Sam Rowlands MS added:

“After nine years in special measures, you would have thought more progress would have been made by a Health Board that has supposedly benefitted from targeted support from the Labour Government, but sadly results are still poor.

“The Welsh Conservatives want to see our Welsh NHS fully resourced with every penny that comes from the UK Government for health with a substantial workforce plan to tackle these longstanding issues across North Wales.”
