Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has called on the Welsh Government to make an urgent statement regarding the suspension of six members of staff from the Bryn Hesketh Mental Health Unit at Colwyn Bay Hospital.
The move comes following concerns raised by another member of staff at the hospital over aspects of patient care. Betsi Cadwaladr health board, which runs the unit, has now launched an independent investigation.
Darren Millar, said:
“This is very concerning news indeed – especially given that the dust is yet to settle on the Tawel Fan scandal which rocked North Wales last year.
“Whilst I welcome the action that has been taken by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board over the past few days, it is essential that they minimise disruption to vulnerable patients in their care and that they keep their loved ones fully informed of developments.
“In addition, given that the Health Board is currently in special measures, it is vital that the Welsh Government makes an urgent statement on the action it is taking to ensure that these concerns properly investigated, and to provide reassurances on mental health services across the North Wales region.”
