The Shadow Minister for Health has raised concerns over a second Prestatyn GP surgery’s termination of its contract with Betsi Cadwaladr UHB.
Darren Millar has received confirmation that the Seabank surgery is due to end its General Medical Services contract next March. The practice serves 2,400 patients.
Earlier this week the health board announced that the Pendyffryn Medical Group – which has 18,000 patients on its books – would terminate its GMS contract.
Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Darren Millar AM, said:
“This is more extremely disappointing news and patients will rightly question how they continue to access local primary care services.
“The health board must address those concerns immediately and confirm what action will be taken.
“The Welsh Labour government’s inability to recruit GPs is a legacy of years of poor workforce planning that has now led to a clear crisis in primary care in north Wales.
“NHS resources across Wales have been hit hard by Labour’s record-breaking NHS budget cuts and I fear more GP contracts will be terminated in the months to come.
“Labour ministers must take immediate action to develop and implement a primary care rescue package.”
