Staff and pupils at a Kinmel Bay School received a special visit yesterday from a Welsh Government Minister.
Welsh Education Minister Huw Lewis paid a visit to Ysgol y Foryd following an invitation by Clwyd West AM Darren to call and celebrate the schools 'Excellent' rating by the schools inspectorate Estyn.
The school gained three out of three excellent grades and the results placed them in the top 2% of schools in Wales for standards.
The Minister sat in on Literacy lessons, attended a Parents’ Well-Being session and spoke about his role before taking questions from pupils.
Darren said:
“I am delighted that the Education Minister found time to come and witness the excellent practice at Ysgol y Foryd. The Estyn report highlights the excellent work of the school, the high standards of behaviour, discipline and academic results.
“Everyone at the school has been involved in the success of Ysgol Y Foryd and I’m proud to have such an excellent school in my constituency.”
Headteacher Stephanie Cartmel, said, “We are thrilled that the Education Minister came to visit us. The school governors, staff and pupils at Ysgol y Foryd work extremely hard in a respectful and committed way and are always looking towards how to improve. Staff and parents work collaboratively with children’s needs at the centre of every decision.”
Recently Ysgol y Foryd held its own mock general election and the new Prime Minister Isaac Maher, aged seven was delighted to get to meet the Minister.
Speaking before the visit he said: “It’s very exciting to think I’ll meet a real minister and I can’t wait to show him around our excellent school.”
