Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar AM has welcomed news that three North Wales sports facilities, including Colwyn Bay’s Parc Eirias, are to be upgraded.
Following a successful application for the £5million Welsh Government Sport Facilities Capital Loan Scheme, Eirias Parc in Colwyn Bay, the Waterworld Leisure Activity Centre and the Chirk Leisure Activity Centre, Wrexham will benefit from almost £2million interest free loan to update and modernise their facilities.
Darren said:
“I am absolutely delighted to hear of this investment for North Wales and am particularly pleased that Eirias Parc in my constituency will be receiving almost £1 million of this funding to update its facilities. This will include a new 3G football/rugby pitch, an artificial bowling green, a hydrotherapy pool, multi-purpose activity room and dedicated ATP hockey surface.
“The Wales Collaborative Sports Facilities Group will also be providing £300,000 in funding. With almost £900,000 from Conwy County Council, the total investment in the project will be £2.19million.
“What has been achieved at both Parc Eirias and Porth Eirias is outstanding. Parc Eirias is allowing more young people to be able to experience rugby, track and field events. It is the major centre for sports in the region as well as being home to RGC 1404 and the Welsh Rugby Union Academy, and also being a major venue for large events.
“Both Parc Eirias and Porth Eirias are assets that all of us living in North Wales can be proud of. Their success has been phenomenal and is helping to provide a much needed boost the local economy. Together they are helping to cement Colwyn Bay as the sports capital for the north Wales region and this latest investment for Parc Eirias will go a long way towards strengthening that.”
