Commenting on the news that the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board will delay its planned changes to maternity provision at Glan Clwyd Hospital for two weeks to consider an alternative proposal which has been developed by consultants and the lead of Women’s Clinical Services at the Board, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar, said:
“I welcome the Health Board’s move to allow for more time to fully consider alternative proposals – it demonstrates that they are now listening to the concerns of clinicians and the public across North Wales.
“The plan which is being considered is credible, affordable and safe so I hope that the Board will give it the green light to be implemented as soon as possible.
“This is a worrying time for staff and mothers-to-be whose babies are due in the coming weeks and they desperately need an end to this uncertainty.”
Vale of Clwyd AM Ann Jones said, “I welcome this decision which comes as the Welsh Health Minister considers the Community Health Council’s referral.
“The First Minister and Health Minister have received a copy of the proposals and both I and Darren Millar will ensure that the health board takes them seriously – we will not accept anything less.
“We will continue to hold the Health Board to account for its decision and fight for doctor-led maternity services to be retained at every district general hospital in North Wales.”
