Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar is supporting efforts to safeguard the future of Ruthin's medieval castle.
This week Darren met with Ruthin Castle Conservation Trust, a new charitable trust set up specifically for the restoration, preservation and preventative maintenance of the Ruthin Castle Estate including the 13th Century castle, the 'castle mansion', auxiliary buildings and historical walls and grounds.
In order to achieve its goals, the Conservation Trust aims to raise funding from all available sources and create sustainable commercial sources of revenue within the overall conservation project, to ensure that ongoing maintenance is provided for.
During his visit, Darren watched a promotional video, toured the site and looked at some potential plans.
He said:
“The ancient castle is very important part of the incredible heritage of the beautiful medieval town of Ruthin which also boasts Nantclywd Y Dre, Ruthin Gaol and a craft centre and I wholeheartedly support the Trust’s efforts to safeguard this neglected treasure.
“Their project ‘Saving Ruthin Castle, The Lost Royal Treasure of Wales’, has 60 days to reach the £110,000 funding target needed to prevent catastrophic and irreversible collapse of the three areas of the castle's medieval curtain wall in most danger.
“Please donate what you can by visiting https://www.buzzbnk.org/SaveRuthinCastle and join the quest to save Ruthin Castle’s place in history and transform it into a monument which visitors and locals alike can enjoy for generations to come.”
