Plans to make controversial changes to Obstetric, Gynaecology, Neonatal and inpatient Breast surgery services in North Wales have been halted by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
Health chiefs announced that plans will be delayed for at least one month as a result of an application for judicial review into the Health Board's decision.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar AM, who has been working to see the Health Board's proposals scrapped has welcomed the news, he said:
"I’ve always been of the opinion that the decision to suspend doctor-led maternity care and other services at Glan Clwyd Hospital was flawed so this news comes as no surprise.
"Delaying any final Board decisions by another month will prolong the misery of uncertainty for hard-working staff, mums-to-be and their loved ones, but this time will at least provide a further breathing space for local health chiefs to work through challenges so that an alternative to dangerous and unpopular service change can be found.
"In the meantime, the battle to save Betsi’s babies will press on and I will continue to work with local campaigners and other North Wales politicians to see the Health Board’s existing plans scrapped once and for all.”
