Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that Abergele Post Office is to benefit from modernisation and investment.
Post Office Limited have announced that the Post Office which is situated on Market Street is to be transformed into one its new main style branches, creating a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers that will include longer opening hours.
The news comes just months after unpopular Post Office Limited plans to relocate the branch to a local convenience store in the town were scrapped following a campaign led by Darren Millar and Mayor of Abergele Cllr Sam Rowlands.
Darren said:
“I am absolutely delighted at this investment in Abergele Post Office, which only a few months ago was threatened with relocation.
“The people of Abergele were outraged at the prospect of this facility being moved from its prominent town centre location and thankfully Post Office Limited listened to their concerns and agreed that the Post Office should stay where it is. They will therefore be extremely pleased to hear of improvements to this much used service.”
The change is part of a major programme of modernisation taking place across the Post Office network, the largest in the history of Post Office Ltd. The Programme is underpinned by UK Government investment and will see up to 8,000 branches modernised and additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches.
Cllr Sam Rowlands added: “The Post Office is at the heart of so many communities, providing vital services to residents and businesses, but unfortunately in recent years we have witnessed many communities losing these assets. It is therefore always great to see investment in Post Office services and I am sure that customers old and new in Abergele will welcome the new look facility and longer opening hours.”
The new-look Post Office is scheduled to open at the current location on Thursday 11 March 2016. It will need to close for refurbishment on Tuesday 09 March 2016 at 5.30pm
If there are any unforeseen schedule changes which mean these dates change, posters will be displayed in branch to let customers know.
