Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar has welcomed news that a High Court judge has stepped in to stop Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board from making any changes to maternity services at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd until the outcome of a further judicial hearing.
A barrister for the health board had argued that current maternity services could not carry on past the intended downgrade date of May 20th, but Mrs Justice Davies has halted any change until she makes her judgement on the case.
The Clwyd West AM said:
“I am pleased the judge has issued an injunction preventing the Board from implementing their dangerous decision to maternity and other women's services in North Wales pending a date for another hearing.
“The uncertainty remains for expectant mothers and their loved ones but today’s news at least ensures us that the downgrading of services will not be rushed through.
"The Board must now act to support staff and prevent the loss of more experienced clinicians, midwives and support workers from the team at Glan Clwyd Hospital so that services can be maintained.
"Our fight to secure the long term future of these services will continue."
The hearing has now been adjourned until a later date.
