Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has expressed disappointment that another bank is to close in his constituency.
The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced that it is to close 162 branches in England and Wales, including the one on Conway Road, Colwyn Bay, which will shut on 31 July 2018.
Darren, who has requested an urgent meeting with the Bank, said:
“I am sick of hearing of bank closures across my constituency, which do nothing to enhance the image of the banking industry. I appreciate that banks have to move with the times, but this is a devastating blow to Colwyn Bay.
“Having an accessible local Branch is important for older people, those without transport, those without internet access, shopkeepers and small businesses. It is very difficult for many customers to travel to those Branches which remain in other locations.
“My thoughts also go to the affected employees and their families, who will no doubt be extremely concerned about today’s announcement. It is always extremely difficult for those affected by the prospect of redundancy, and this is sadly another blow for a sector which has already been hit by similar job losses.”
The bank has said the reason for the closure is due to the radical change in the way people bank. Customers will be able to use NatWest branches for their everyday banking.
Their local team at Colwyn Bay have been informed and have begun to tell our customers.
