Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar has met with a leading mobile phone operator to challenge them about areas of poor reception in his constituency.
Darren is concerned that a number of residents and businesses in Conwy and Denbighshire still struggle to use their mobile phones because the reception is so poor and met with representative of mobile operator Three last week to discuss what action they are taking to address the issue.
Darren said:
“Reception is exceptionally poor in some rural parts of Conwy and Denbighshire and and I have received many complaints from constituents over the years.
“This poor mobile phone coverage makes it harder for people to communicate and businesses to operate, putting growth and jobs at risk. The digital economy is growing seven times faster than the rest of the economy combined, and this is largely due to the vast adoption of mobile technologies such as smart phones and tablets. Ensuring people and businesses in Wales can get good mobile coverage is vital.
“The need for reliable and high speed communications has become increasingly important and nobody in this day and age should be disadvantaged in terms of coverage and speed because of where they live.
“I challenged the representatives of Three about areas of poor reception in Clwyd West including areas around Colwyn Heights and some of the rural communities in Conwy County Borough area and they have accepted the need to do more to improve coverage for their customers and have informed me that they are rolling out improvements and upgrades to their network between now and the end of 2017.”
Darren will also be meeting with Vodafone to discuss the problem in the next week.
