Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar hosted the official launch of Wales Friends of Israel (WFI) in the Senedd last week.
WFI is a nation-wide association of local, grass roots groups within regional areas established to develop and enlarge relationship between the countries and peoples of Wales and Israel by promoting better understanding about the State of Israel, Israelis and the Jewish people through the advancement of educational, cultural and social ties in Wales and the UK.
Last month Darren spent over a week in Israel on a visit organised by the Council of Christians and Jews. During his time there he participated in a seminar at the International Institute for Holocaust Research based at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and attended the Official Opening of the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament).
Darren said:
“I was delighted to host the official launch of Wales Friends of Israel in the Senedd. There are many similarities between Wales and Israel; both have ancient languages and they are very similar in size, though not in shape, with beautiful coastlines, rolling hills, fertile valleys, freshwater lakes, modern and ancient cities. They have many shared interests including business investments, technology and sports.
“The aim of WFI is to strengthen relations and understanding between the two countries. It will hold events such as conferences and concerts, advocate for the people of Israel, and network with similar groups across the UK.
“I am so pleased that this WFI is now up and running and look forward to continuing to work with it to develop the relationship between these two great nations.”
