Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has called on the new Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates AM, to review safety on a dangerous stretch of road in rural in Denbighshire.
Darren has long been calling for action to improve road safety on the dangerous A494 in and around Llanbedr DC in his constituency, and following a serious accident involving a local teenager, Nia Jones, earlier this year, he launched a petition calling on the Welsh Government to take action to address local concerns.
With the Welsh Government’s new Cabinet now in place, Darren is pursuing the matter further and has written to the new Minister urging him to review highway safety on the stretch.
He said:
“The locality, which has a steep gradient and many bends, has been the scene of a number of injury accidents in recent years and many near misses. The locality receives a high number of visitors due to being located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, many of whom are unfamiliar with the road and terrain which increases risks in the area.
“Many of my constituents are concerned that unless speed limit reductions are introduced, and sharp bends on the highway are reengineered lives may be lost in the future. The lack of action to address local safety concerns has been putting the lives of motorists and other highway users at risk for years.
“I share the concerns of my constituents and have asked the Minister to consider reviewing safety on the road as soon as possible before somebody is killed.”
