Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has officially opened a new state of the art, multi million pound dementia care centre in Abergele.
Tŷ Cariad, which is situated on the North Wales Business Park, on the outskirts of the town, comprises four small households each trying to meet the needs of a particular stage of dementia.
Each household is designed to give residents a huge sense of the freedom to be wherever they wish to be, whilst always being secure.
The gardens are multi-sensory, themed with echoes of the 1950’s, and even have cars parked outside garages for residents to use as they see fit.
Darren said:
“This is a fantastic facility which will be of huge benefit to those with dementia living in my constituency. Research indicates there is a growing need for dementia care homes in North Wales and this home will provide much needed support for this vulnerable group in society.
“It has also created new jobs in the town, which is very welcome news.”
He added:
“Dementia will increasingly effect all our lives and it is crucial that we ensure we have the very latest facilities and approaches available to us here in Wales. I would very much like to thank Fairways Care for developing this state of the art facility here in Abergele.”
Mark Bailey of Fairways Care said:
“We have spent around five years planning Ty Cariad with the help of experts such as Prof Woods. We received further support from local politicians who helped push the plans forward.
“We now look forward to actually running the home we have all spent so long creating, and want to thank all the people who have helped us make it a reality.”
