The GP out-of-hours service in North Wales is ‘not safe’ and is failing on every measure, according to a new report.
A report commissioned by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board highlights a lack of clinical leadership and chronic understaffing.
Darren Millar AM, Shadow Health Minister, said, “This is a shocking assessment of the GP out-of-hours service, which is failing against every single measure.
“Patients must have the confidence that NHS services will be there when they need them, but this report raises serious concerns about safety.
“Patients must be wondering what on earth health board bosses are doing, given how long these problems have been brewing. They should consider whether they are fit to run one of the biggest public sector organisations in Wales.
“Labour Ministers must intervene to address chronic understaffing on the GP out-of-hours service in North Wales to prevent more patients being put at risk.”
